San Diego Harbor: Things to See & Do

What is San Diego known for? Well, that is a question with an abundance of answers. With incredible weather, white sandy beaches, good food and company, San Diego is widely considered one of “America’s finest cities.” One of the top things one should do when visiting the area is travel to the San Diego Harbor, also known as the San Diego Bay Walk. There is a plethora of things for families and friends to experience and it is not something you will want to miss! Read on to learn more about the San Diego Harbor activities that await you.

Seaport Village

The Seaport Village is 14 acres long, providing its guests with some of the best shopping, entertainment, and fine dining San Diego has to offer. Spend your day visiting the diverse shops while taking in the live music that is graciously playing daily for your pleasure. Located along the waterfront, it is a great place to enjoy the gorgeous sunset as it descends beyond the harbor while filling your stomach with food from the surrounding eateries. Be sure to visit the carousel or buy a kite for hours of fun in one of the Embarcadero Parks.

Unconditional Surrender Statue

This is a must-see, especially if you are walking along the waterfront. Remember that iconic WWII photo taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt on August 14, 1945 of the sailor kissing the nurse in Time Square? Well San Diego is lucky enough to have this very scene on a grand scale. This 25 foot tall statue stands proud in a public park right next to the USS Midway.

USS Midway Museum

Take a walk through history and visit the USS Midway Museum. Consisting of the aircraft carrier, Midway, as well as over 50 exhibits, multiple restored aircraft systems and more, you are sure to be entertained for hours. This unique museum provides a rich, historical experience that will leave you feeling educated and even more appreciative of those who have served our country.

Coronado Ferry

Are you standing in downtown San Diego and wondering about the land across the San Diego Bay? You are looking at Coronado! Enjoy the novelty of traveling by boat as you board the Coronado Ferry and quickly cruise over to this little neighborhood. You will be dropped off at the Coronado Ferry Landing where there are a plethora of shops, restaurants, and beaches. Enjoy a walk down Orange Street and visit Hotel Del Coronado for a peak at San Diego’s rich history.

Embarcadero Marina Park North & South

Bring a kite and a picnic for hours of fun in these grassy parks. There is even a pier where people often throw their hooks out for a fun afternoon of fishing. This is a great family friendly place for kids to run around and enjoy the sunshine.

Fifth Avenue Landing

If you’re looking to immerse yourself in San Diego culture, walk from Seaport Village along the boardwalk to Fifth Avenue Landing. You will pass the Embarcadero Marina Parks, the gorgeous steps of the San Diego Convention Center, and you will find yourself viewing spectacular mega yachts. Being a mega yacht in it’s own right, the crew aboard the Yacht America love looking through the gates at all the other mega yachts at this dock.
