Gray whale watching season spans from mid-December through April. In order to provide the best experience possible, our guides only offer one San Diego sailing whale watching tour a day to ensure focus and complete attention. Aboard our 139-foot sailing yacht, the Yacht America, you will see a plethora of gray whales firsthand in their natural habitat. Stick around as later in the season, you will also most likely see females leading their calves up north. In addition to whales, we also see dolphin and sea lion sightings as well!
During the month of March, the humpback whales start to come to San Diego. This year was no exception. We saw a mom and calf feeding right off our coast. In addition, a few humpbacks were extremely curious and swam right up to the boat. We even had a few humpback whales breach right in front of our guests.
We are seeing an abundance of food in our waters, so we anticipate more humpback whales in the future. In addition, we have heard reports that blue whales are already swimming off the coast of California. They should be arriving in San Diego very soon where they will stay all summer long to feed on krill. Have you seen a blue whale? They are the largest animal on the planet, weighing up to 300,000 lbs!
Our team at Next Level Sailing is so confident in our ability to provide the best whale watching tours in San Diego that we offer the only “no sickness guarantee” in the world.
