Visit the Swami’s Tidepools

San Diego North County has many tide pools, and Swami’s Tidepools are some of the most interesting. On your visit to Cardiff State Beach during low tide, walk toward the rocky northern area. You will find tide pools of sedimentary rock filled with sea hares, snails, barnacles, sea cucumbers, anemones, urchins, mussels, limpets, octopi, and brittle stars, as well as 45-million-year-old shell fossils and plant life, such as kelp and seaweed.

You can get a guided tour of the tidepools from a Nature Collective Ambassador. These professionals help you navigate the area safely and show you all the unique marine life the pools offer. You can get an up-close view of the reef formation by visiting the Swami’s Tidepools.

Hike Torrey Pines

Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve has a variety of hiking trails. If you are looking for a shorter, more accessible loop-type trail, consider the Guy Fleming Trail or Razor Point Trail, where you can view local wildflowers, cacti, and ferns. You get a good idea of the reserve’s habitat diversity. The Parry Grove, Beach, and High Point Trails are more challenging with steep climbs or steps, but you can find outstanding views at Yucca Point Outlook, Razor Point, and on the beach.

Broken Hill Trail is the longest at 1.3 miles. However, it does bring you down to the beach as well as to a scenic overlook. The reserve extension also has several trails, including the half-mile Mar Scenic, Daughters of the American Revolution, Red Ridge Loop, and Margaret Fleming Nature Trails, which are less than one mile long.
